Income Tax
Income Tax is a tax on the money we earn. This money is then
used for to pay for services in Jersey like schools,
hospitals and social security amongst other things.
The tax year goes from 1st January until 31st December.
A percentage of your earnings is taken out from your wages
in a system called ITIS. ITIS stands for Income Tax Instalment
System. This is so that you do not get a tax bill at the end of the
year to cover the tax you owe.
When you register with the Income Tax Department
they will give you a notification slip which you should
give to your employer.
At the ned of the year the Income Tax Department will send you
an income tax return form which you fill out and send it back to
them. This information is used to calculate your ITIS rate for
the next year.
