Violence in Relationships
Domestic Violence
Domestic violence can take various forms, and it is most often,
but not always, women that suffer.
It's not just about being hit. Verbal, emotional and sexual
abuse can be forms of domestic violence too.
For some, the decision to get help or end the relationship is
quick and easily made. For others, the situation can carry on for
some time before anything is done about it.
Sometimes people become so ground down that they find it
difficult to get help, or they might be frightened or think that
the person will change etc. If you suffer domestic
violence, you may be made to feel that everything is your
fault.....it's not!!
If you are staying in your present situation then try to think
if there is anything you can do straight away to make things
safer.
Are there any warning signs or patterns in your partner's
behaviour? Does anything trigger things off? Is it related to drink
or other drugs? Can you avoid your partner when you spot the signs
or the situation arising?
YOUR SAFETY IS IMPORTANT - TRY TO GET HELP!
Does this sound like you or someone you know? It could be a
parent or a friend. Try to get some support. You are NOT ON YOUR
OWN with this and there are several ways you can be helped.
Domestic violence is a crime that no one should be subjected to
and if you contact the police they will take the situation very
seriously.
