Employing Young People
There is a new Employment
Law in Jersey for young people who are still at
school.

It tells employers things like how old
you need to be before they can employ you, how many hours
they can employ you for in a school week, as well as the types of
places you would not be able to work in if you have not left school
yet.
The law doesn't say anything about how
much you can be paid, but it does say that you have to be at least
13 years old to work for an employer, you cannot work before 6am or
after 8.15pm, you can work on up to 6 days per week, and you can
work up to 2 hours a day on a school day and up to 12 hours a week
on a school week.
This Law does not apply to any work experience organised
through your school or if you are involved in things like music,
acting or singing.
There is more
information about this law on the web page 'Information for
Young Workers'. If you want to find out more information you can go
